Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 is a racing game developed by EA Black Box and published by Electronic Arts. It is the sixth installment in the Need for Speed series and the sequel to the 1998 game Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit. The game was released in 2002 for PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, and Microsoft Windows. In Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, players can choose from a variety of cars and race against computer-controlled opponents or other players in either single-player or multiplayer mode. The game features a variety of tracks set in different locations around the world such as Canada, England, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, and the United States. Players can also customize their cars with performance upgrades such as nitrous oxide systems and turbochargers. The game also introduces an innovative feature called “Hot Pursuit Mode” which allows players to take on the role of either a racer or a police officer. As a racer, players must evade police officers while trying to reach checkpoints before time runs out. As a police officer, players must use various tactics such as roadblocks and spike strips to stop racers from reaching their checkpoints before time runs out. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 also features several different modes including Quick Race Mode which allows players to quickly jump into races with pre-selected cars and tracks; Championship Mode which challenges players to complete multiple races in order to win cups; Single Race Mode which allows players to race against computer-controlled opponents, and much more.
